Sign up for mowing and trimming

Here’s a great way to meet your requirement to volunteer at the garden. Please review the available slots at SignUp Genius and click on the button to sign up. Thank you!

Each start date is for the week of beginning on that Monday.  A mower and weed whip (or string trimmer) and fuel for each are provided by MCG.  Estimated time per week is 1-1.5 hours.

Mowing should be done once a week, or as needed later in the season. If you need help with the mower, please text Bill Stoneman (608-712-4916).

A McFarland UCC volunteer mows the center of the main paths between plots and around the outside of the garden, so you need only mow areas where the large UCC mower can’t go — along plot fences, around trees, beds, sheds, etc. Mowing should be limited to just one pass around each of the blocks, and around the Katie's shed (the mid-garden shed) and also around the herb beds. Please mow the areas around the raised bed gardens at the front of the garden.

Look over the materials storage area in the back of the garden and weed whip as needed (probably every other week or so).

At least one mower will be available in the shed during the entire season (we have two in case one breaks down). The weed whips can be a little touchy to start – Bill & others will monitor it to be sure it is filled with string.

Use caution when weed whipping against fencing - fences can "eat up" weed whip string.
